Mrs. Lura "Lou" Ellen Guthrie, a beloved wife, mother, sister, aunt, and grandmother, was born on December 25,1954 in Lucedale Ms. She departed from this world on November 8, 2025, leaving behind a family who loved her dearly and have cherished memories that will remain in their hearts forever.
Lou truly knew that it was more blessed to give than to receive. Her generosity knew no bounds. Lou was a beautiful soul who would help anyone. She enjoyed shopping, getting pedicures, going to the beach, and traveling. Lou’s world revolved around her family. She would treat her nieces and nephews as her own children. Lou began to enjoy traveling with family on vacations. She went on several adventures on these trips and talked about how much she enjoyed them every year.
She would always ask, “where are we going next year?” The last year, she said she couldn't go on anymore trips but she was thankful for the ones that she had. She always did for others and never expected anything in return.
Lou lived most of her life in Harpervile and was a proud native of Scott County. She graduated from Scott Central in 1975. She had a long career at Koch Foods and retired after several years of dedicated service.
Lou is survived by her step-daughter, Christi Breedlove; her sisters: Pam Green and Nancy Anderson; her brothers, Pete Elmore, and Bill (Marie) Elmore; her grandchildren, Austin, Caitlyn, AnnaClaire, Chase, Tanner, and Makayla. In addition to her immediate family, she leaves behind a number of nieces and nephews who loved her dearly.
Lou was preceded in death by her parents, Lonnie and Thelma Elmore; her husband, Dan Guthrie; her sons, Cody and Alex Guthrie; her brother, James Elmore; and her sister, Rose Mary Shuler.
