Linda Thompson, a beloved teacher and devoted Christian, passed away peacefully on March 18, 2026, in Morton, Mississippi. Born on January 18, 1947, in Scott County, she lived a life marked by dedication to her family, faith, and community.
Mrs. Thompson spent many years shaping young minds as a teacher in Scott Central, where she was admired for her patience, kindness, and unwavering commitment to education. Beyond her professional life, Linda was a cherished member of Leesburg Baptist Church, where her deep faith guided her and inspired those around her. She loved spending time with her Sunday school class, nurturing spiritual growth and fellowship.
A woman of gentle spirit and warm heart, Linda found joy in simple pleasures. She enjoyed gardening, skillful sewing, and treasured every moment with her family. Her presence brought comfort and happiness to all who knew her.
She is survived by her devoted son, Glen Thompson, and his wife Carrie; her son, Herman Thompson, and his wife Tonya; her sister, Patricia Thompson; and her grandchildren, Wyatt, Matthew, Jayden, and John. Their enduring love and support were a beacon throughout her life.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Charles Thompson, a partnership that built a lifetime of memories; her father, Cleveland Bates; and her mother, Edna Gould Bates.
The family will receive friends for visitation at Ott & Lee Funeral Home, 3555 US-80, Morton, MS, on March 19 from 5:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. Additional visitation will take place on March 20 at Leesburg Baptist Church, 796 MS-481, Morton, MS, from 12:00 p.m. until 1:00 p.m. A funeral service to honor Linda’s life and legacy will be held immediately following the visitation on March 20 at 1:00 p.m. at Leesburg Baptist Church. Serving as pallbearers are Jaden Hollis, Luke Thompson, Alex Thompson, Macky Thompson, Michael Thompson, and Logan Land.
Linda Thompson will be laid to rest at Leesburg Baptist Cemetery on Church Street in Morton, MS, beginning at 2:00 p.m. on March 20. Her life leaves a lasting imprint on her community and family, reflecting a character of grace, sincerity, and steadfast faith.
She will be deeply missed but forever remembered with love and respect by all who were privileged to know her.
