Linda Sue Layton, aged 75, passed away on Thursday, January 29, 2026, in Brandon, Mississippi. Born on January 31, 1950, in Independence, Louisiana, she was a devoted member of her community and a beloved family member.
For many years, Linda served as the cafeteria manager for the Rankin County School District. Following her retirement, she dedicated over 20 years as a caregiver for Dr. Bell and his wife, Dr. Walterine Bell. Her commitment to service and care for others was evident in every aspect of her life.
Linda attended Bethel Baptist Church for many years, where she enjoyed playing sports with her friends from the congregation. She had a passion for watching golf, which brought her great joy.
Linda is survived by her husband of 55 years, Jimmy Dale Layton; her son, Tony Layton (Abby); her cherished grandchildren, Parker Layton and Samantha Layton; her brother, Ottis Wayne Vanlandingham; and a host of nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents, James Ottis Vanlandingham and Mildred Elizabeth Reeder Vanlandingham, as well as nine siblings.
A visitation will be held on Sunday, February 1, 2026, from 12:30 PM to 2:00 PM, followed by a memorial service at 2:00 PM, both at Ott & Lee Funeral Home in Brandon, Mississippi. Linda's warmth and kindness will be dearly missed but lovingly remembered by all who knew her.
