Obituary

Judy Sones Smith, a beloved daughter, sister, wife, grandmother, and friend, passed away peacefully on April 23, 2026, at St. Dominic Hospital in Jackson, Mississippi. Born on February 27, 1963, in Jackson, Judy lived a life marked by devotion to her family, a deep appreciation for the simple beauties of nature, and a warm, generous spirit that touched all who knew her.

Judy’s journey was one of rich relationships and heartfelt passions. She cherished the time spent outdoors, often found fishing or tending to her yard with loving care. The delicate dance of butterflies captivated her, symbolizing the grace and gentleness she carried within. Her canine companion, Littleman, along with her many cats, were constant sources of comfort and joy, reflecting her nurturing nature. Above all, Judy's heart belonged to her grandchildren, Kinsley and Lillie, the true apples of her eye, whose happiness and wellbeing were her foremost concerns.

Her life was profoundly shaped by love, most notably by the partnership she shared with her devoted husband, Robert Smith, whose passing on February 24, 2026, left a void that made life unusually hard in her final months. Judy endured this period with quiet strength, surrounded by the love and support of those closest to her.

Judy was born to James Sones and Rebecca Bishop Sones, whose memories she held dear though they have passed on before her. She also grieved the loss of her brother, Bart Sones, and sister, Darhlene Jones—family bonds that remained ever strong despite the distance time and life have traveled.

She is survived by her loving family who stood by her side through all seasons: her son,  Allen Smith and his wife,  Katie of Morton; her cherished grandchildren, Kinsley and Lillie Smith; her sister, Sondra Sones of Forest; nephews, David Jones II and Michael Jones; niece, Jessica Daniels; and a host of nieces, nephews, and friends whose lives she enriched.

Visitation to honor Judy’s memory will be held on Sunday, April 26, 2026, from 5:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. at Ott & Lee Funeral Homes in Morton, Mississippi, located at 3555 US-80. Family and friends will gather again the following day, Monday, April 27, at Kalem Community Church, 8320 US-80, Morton, for visitation from 11:00 a.m. until 2:00 p.m., with a funeral service to follow at 2:00 p.m. Graveside will be in Kalem Community Cemetery with Bro. Ricky Warren officiating.

Judy Sones Smith leaves a legacy of love, resilience, and a quiet appreciation for life's delicate moments. She will be deeply missed yet fondly remembered by all who had the privilege to know her. Her spirit lives on through her family and the many lives she touched with kindness and grace.

Ott and Lee Funeral Home in Morton is honored to serve the Smith family.
