Joseph Timothy “J.T.” Childs, Jr., age 77, of Pineville, Mississippi, passed away at his home on May 10, 2026. He was born on December 28, 1948, in Corinth, Mississippi, to Joseph Timothy “Buster” Childs, Sr. and Thelma Lavern Childs. After a short time in north MS, they settled on a farm in Pineville, MS.
J.T. was a devoted Christian and faithful member of Leaf River Baptist Church where he served as a deacon. He proudly served his country in the Army National Guard during his early adult years, and he dedicated 44 years of service to Georgia-Pacific in Taylorsville, Mississippi, where he retired as Mobile Equipment Supervisor. Through his years of hard work and commitment, he earned the respect and friendship of many coworkers and friends.
He is survived by his wife, Glenda Usry Childs, of 55 years, son Joey Childs and companion, Stacey Rutland, of Sumrall, daughter Jeanne (Tom) Walker of Hattiesburg, and four grandchildren, Carmin (Adam) Dixon, Caragan Childs, Katie Walker, and Claire Childs, and his two great-grandsons, Beau Walker and John Luke Dixon. J.T. is also survived by his sister, Joanne (Cliff) Lazenby of Hattiesburg, and Heather Holder Childs of Sumrall, mother of granddaughters Carmin, Caragan, and Claire.
Above all else, J.T. loved his family. He especially cherished spending time with his grandchildren and found great joy in watching them play soccer, softball, and participate in cheerleading. He also dearly loved his great-grandsons, Beau Walker and John Luke, who brought him tremendous happiness. Following retirement, he enjoyed gardening and took pride in working hard around his home, always staying busy and caring for those he loved. J.T. will be remembered for his strong work ethic, quiet devotion to his faith and family, and the love he shared with everyone around him.
Visitation will be held Tuesday, May 12, 2026, from 6:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m., and again at 10:00 a.m. Wednesday, May 13, 2026, at Leaf River Baptist Church.
