DUE TO WEATHER: The service will be at OTT & LEE FUNERAL HOME CHAPEL this morning, Saturday, May 9th, at 11am. There will be no graveside services.

Johnny Wilson Gunn Sr, age 80, passed away peacefully on May 2, 2026, with his loving wife (Shirley Sanders Gunn) of 62 years by his side.

Johnny was born on December 17, 1945, in Morton, Mississippi, to John and Mildred (Wilson) Gunn. He was a father of two children, Shelly Gunn Burns and Johnny Wilson Gunn Jr.(Kristyn), and a grandfather of four (Mary Carsley, Wyatt, Finley, and Harper). He believed in the power of family and hard work. He loved spending time with his grandchildren and attending their various activities and sporting events. Johnny was passionate about the outdoors and enjoyed hunting, horseback riding, and working in the yard with Shirley. For many years, he worked on the family cattle farm and as a cable repair technician. Johnny retired from South Central Bell after 32 years with the company! After retirement, Johnny loved to piddle around the house, taking on various projects in the barn and yard.

Johnny was a very quick-witted man! He loved telling a good story that was often embellished for the listener’s entertainment. He was very loyal and dependable, and good at many things. Many would say he was iron-willed… committed and unyielding when he had his mind set to it! Above all, Johnny’s life was a testament to family and perseverance.

A family gathering to celebrate Johnny’s life will be held on May 9, 2026, at Harperville Cemetery. In Johnny’s honor, the family asks that you perform an act of kindness in his memory.

OTT & LEE Funeral Home of Forest is honored to serve the Gunn family.
