Obituary

John Douglas Denton, affectionately known as Doug, was born on June 5, 1956, in Jackson, Mississippi. He left this world on January 29, 2026,  where he made a profound impact through his work, hobbies, and friendships.

Doug dedicated many years of his life to the MS State Hospital, where he served as a skilled heavy equipment operator and maintenance worker. His practicality and determination influenced not only his professional life but also his personal passions. At home, he found joy and fulfillment in woodworking and iron work, spending countless hours in his shop. Doug was a true craftsman whose creations reflected his dedication and love for his craft.

Doug had a deep fondness for animals, cherishing his horse, affectionately named Hit the Deck Double Ugly, and his furbaby, Hambone. His connection with them exemplified his nurturing spirit and love for all living beings. Additionally, he was an active member of the Central MS Light Flyers, a flying club where he established many meaningful friendships that enriched his life.

He leaves behind a loving wife, Kathy Denton of Brandon, who was a source of unwavering support and companionship throughout their journey together. Doug is also survived by his sister, Theresa Denton of Pineville. His circle of friends included Walter and Paulette Phillips, Roy Moore, and Dee Gilliland, along with many others whose lives he touched with his kindness and jovial spirit.

Doug will be remembered not only for his talents and passions but also for the warmth he brought into the lives of those around him. He is preceded in death by his parents, Otis Caley Denton and Myrtis Viola Hollingsworth Denton, as well as his brother, James Otis Denton. Doug's legacy will forever remain in the hearts of his family, friends, and all those fortunate enough to know him.
