James Randall “Randy” Ates, 67, of Brandon, Mississippi, entered the presence of his Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ, on July 29, 2026.
Born on March 1, 1959, to James and Maggie Ates, Randy lived a life marked by faith, love, service, and a genuine care for others.
Randy was married to the love of his life, Lori, for 34 years. He was a devoted father who loved his two children deeply and was a constant source of wisdom, encouragement, and support.
For 33 years, Randy faithfully served the Brandon community as a Shelter Insurance agent. Throughout his career, he built meaningful relationships with countless clients and friends. Randy was more than an insurance agent—he was someone people trusted, someone who cared, and someone who always took time to listen.
A faithful member of Crossgates Baptist Church, Randy was a strong believer in the Lord and lived his life as a testament of his faith. One of his greatest joys was sharing the Gospel and encouraging others in their walk with Christ.
Randy loved being outdoors and spending time in God’s creation, especially fishing. He found joy in simple moments, meaningful conversations, and helping others in any way he could. He was well known in his community and truly never met a stranger.
Above all, Randy will be remembered as a loving husband, devoted father, faithful Christian, caring brother, trusted friend, and a great encourager. His life was a reflection of his love for the Lord and his love for people. The impact he made will continue through the many lives he touched.
Randy was preceded in death by his parents. He is survived by his wife, Lori Ates, his daughter, Kasy Ates, his son, Ridge Ates and daughter-in-law Sydney; and his brother, Ricky Ates.
Family and friends are invited to celebrate Randy’s life on Sunday, August 2, 2026, at Ott & Lee Funeral Home in Brandon, Mississippi. Visitation will be held from 1:00 p.m. until 3:00 p.m., with the funeral service beginning at 3:00 p.m.
