Obituary

Jack Cox, of Brandon, Mississippi, passed away on Sunday, July 5, 2026, in Flowood, Mississippi, at the age of 82.

A visitation to celebrate Mr. Cox’s life will be held on Saturday, July 11, 2026, from 2:00 until 4:00 pm at Ott & Lee Funeral Home in Brandon, Mississippi.

Jack was born on September 23, 1943, in Philadelphia, Mississippi, to Buddy Cox and Claudia Luke Cox. After high school, he served in the Military Police unit of the National Guard, and he joined the Jackson Police Department in 1967. During his time there, he was a member of the first motorcycle unit of the department. Over the years, he grew in his career and retired in 1994 as a detective in the juvenile division. His work as a police officer even played a part in him meeting his beloved wife, Evelyn, when a driver backed into her car at a donut shop and he was there to save the day. He and Evelyn were married on December 20, 1985. After his retirement, Jack and his son, Michael, owned and operated Mel Luna Saw Company together from 2000 until 2007.

Jack enjoyed spending time with his various friend groups. Whether it was playing a good round of golf or showing antique cars together, Jack was an ever-present friend to many people in the area. His favorite hobby was playing cards, winning more games than he lost. He will be remembered as a loving husband, wonderful father and brother, committed officer, and dear friend to many.

Jack is preceded in death by his parents, Buddy and Claudia Cox; sisters, Barbara Nowell and Bobbie Faye Cox; and brother, Joe Cox.

He is survived by his wife of 40 years, Evelyn Cox; children, Michael Cox (Amber), Chris Noble (Alicia), and Ashleigh Noble; grandchildren, Tyler Cox and Ava Noble; and siblings, Pam Higginbotham (Tom) and Gary Cox.
