Obituary

Helen Christine Lomax passed away at her home in the Eureka community, Lena, Mississippi, on December 26, 2025.

Born August 8, 1925, in Kemper County, she lived a long, happy and beautiful life to the age of 100 years.

She was preceded in death by her parents Malcolm Emanual and Etta Mae Slade Price, her husband Winston Ray Lomax, a son Johnnie Norris Lomax, Son-in-law John Wayne Martin, Sr., a grandson William Lovett, three brothers and two sisters.

She is survived by three daughters: Barbara Ann Martin, Sheila Joyce Thomas (Larry) and Donna Lynn Lawrence (Joe); one son Billy Ray Lomax (Argie); 10 grandchildren, 14 great- grandchildren and three great-great-grandchildren.

Christine was a long-time resident of the Eureka community to which she moved at the age of six. She immediately began attending Henry Grady school, which also served as Eureka Baptist Church. For 94 years, she was a faithful member of the church, loving God, her church, and her church family.

After completing elementary school, she attended Pisgah High School until she married her husband Ray Lomax of the same Eureka community. Their home became the “go-to” home for all the children in the community, providing a happy, fun-loving and nurturing environment. They had compassionate spirits and opened their home to children in need, whether for just a night or for years. Many of those children have stayed in contact with her through the years.

Christine was a wonderful homemaker, a great seamstress and an outstanding cook. Her table was always full with a variety of vegetables, fried chicken and desserts. Family and friends were always welcomed to eat at her table, and nothing delighted her more than sharing food from her garden with members of her community.

She was an independent and determined individual. After the death of her husband, Christine obtained a driver’s license, bought her first car, sought employment in the public sector and began working at Canton Manufacturing in Canton, Mississippi in a supervisory role. Having not worked outside the home, she excelled in her job, making many new friends who continued to stay in contact over the years. After the plant’s closing, she resumed homemaking, focusing on nurturing her children and grandchildren, all of whom she loved dearly.

Visitation will be 5-7 p.m. at Ott and Lee Funeral Home, Morton, MS, on Saturday, December 27, 2025. Funeral Services and burial will be December 28 at Eureka Baptist Church with viewing starting at 1 p.m. followed by the service at 2 p.m.

Pallbearers will be her grandsons Chad Martin, Donnie Lawrence, Joshua Thomas, Scott Lomax, Justin Lomax and Joe Lawrence III. Honorary Pallbearer will be Wayne Martin.

A special thanks is extended to Baptist Hospice for the loving and tender care that was provided to our mother and grandmother during her time of need.
