Obituary

Gregory Miller Sanders was born on January 16, 1963, and departed this life on March 24, 2026. Greg was born to Smith and Ruby Worrell Sanders. He was a lifelong resident of the Harperville Community. He was the youngest brother of three siblings, Iris (Jimmy) King, Charles (Sonya) Sanders, and Suzette (David) Benton. Greg attended Scott Academy until its closure, then briefly attended Newton Academy and graduated from Scott Central in 1981. Greg attended East Central Community College after graduation and again later to obtain a degree in Computer Technology. Greg worked in the field of electronic technology at Peavey Electronics for eighteen years and at Raytheon for almost twenty years before retiring in 2023. Greg received many commendations and recognition for his excellent performance and innovations.

Greg married Sheila Strickland Sanders on June 20, 1987. They were married for over 38 years and together were parents to three children, Lindsey (Justin) Jones, Joseph (Chelsea) Sanders, and Victoria (Brooks) Hill. They were blessed with two granddaughters, Emery Rose and Willa Ruby Jones.

Greg was a person who exhibited absolute and unwavering dedication and devotion to every endeavor and area within his purview. He was a loving and devoted husband and father. He protected, provided for, and cherished his family. In his career, he was entrusted with responsibilities of the highest level, which he always fulfilled in an exemplary manner. Greg was a lifelong member of Harperville Baptist Church, where he served in numerous positions and capacities. He was a deacon, Sunday School Director, a teacher and leader of youth and children, sound technician, and, most recently, custodian. He performed any job or task that he felt needed to be done at his beloved church.

One cannot recall Greg‘s life without acknowledging his love for running. He started for general fitness purposes, but that gradually transitioned to running in 5Ks, and advancing to endurance runs of 25K, 50K, and 50-mile. His favorite runs were those in the mountains of Alabama and Tennessee. During his thirty years of running, he participated in over 100 events and holds several state titles. Greg also hiked a significant part of the Appalachian Trail and had hoped to finish it one day.

Greg was foremost and most importantly, a Believer. He loved the Lord and demonstrated that by his words and deeds throughout his life. His friends and family have the assurance and comfort to know that he is with Jesus today. He would want everyone to have that same assurance through faith and belief in Jesus Christ.
