Gene Wallace, born on January 24, 1958, in Los Angeles, California, passed away peacefully at his home in Forkville, Mississippi, on March 30, 2026. He lived a life marked by hard work, dedication, and the forming of meaningful connections wherever he went.
Gene was a truck driver for many years, a profession that took him across the country to places such as New York, Wisconsin, Canada, Florida, New Jersey, and the Dakotas, among many other states. In an era before digital navigation, Gene mastered the art of reading paper maps, a skill he carried with pride and proficiency. For 16 years, he worked as a mechanic, bringing his expertise and care to vehicles with the same meticulous attention he applied to every part of his life.
A man of simple pleasures, Gene had a deep love for coffee, often carrying a thermos with him wherever he traveled. His natural warmth and openness made him a friend to everyone he met; he would easily strike up conversations and form friendships that often lasted long after their paths crossed.
Gene's family was central to his heart, especially his grandchildren, whom he regarded as the apples of his eye. He is survived by his devoted sons, Robert Wallace and Claire of Byram, Mississippi, and Christopher Wallace and Alexis of Morton; his brother, Thomas Leroy Wallace and Sunni of Forkville; and his beloved grandchildren: Kaylie Thompson, Matthew Wallace, Alizabeth Shoemaker, and Christian John Wallace. Alongside his family, he leaves behind a host of friends who cherished his companionship and generous spirit.
Gene was predeceased by his loving wife, Becky J. Kicklighter Wallace, and his parents, Thomas Eugene Wallace and Peggy Lou Jones Wallace.
His humble strength, generosity, and the joy he found in everyday moments will be remembered by all who knew him. Gene Wallace’s legacy is one of genuine kindness, steadfast work ethic, and an open heart that embraced life and those around him with unwavering warmth. He will be deeply missed but lovingly remembered by his family, friends, and all whose lives he touched.
There will be a visitation on Friday, April 3, 2026 from 10 am - 11am at Ott and Lee Funeral Home in Morton. Chapel service will follow at 11am from the Ott and Lee Funeral Home in Morton. There will be no graveside service.
