Frankie Lee Gilbert Sessums passed away peacefully on October 5, 2026, at Lackey Convalescent Home in Forest, MS. She was 99 years old and would have celebrated her one hundredth birthday on January 14, 2027.
She was born on January 14, 1927 to her parents Frank and Florence Hardy Gilbert in Lena, Mississippi.
Miss Frankie graduated from Lena High School and continued her studies at East Central Junior College and the University of Southern Mississippi. She taught at Ludlow and Harperville in Scott County. After her marriage to I.W. (Wendy) Sessums in March 1948, she began working for the ASCS (USDA) in Forest. Some years later, she was the bookkeeper for Sessums Ford Sales and Milady’s. Miss Frankie found her favorite job was being a wife and a mother. Later, she became a grandmother and loved that role. In her later years, she was blessed with great grandchildren.
Cooking, gardening, sewing, and reading were her favorite past times. In later years, she enjoyed coloring books and word finds. Miss Frankie was a longtime member of Forest Baptist Church. She loved her Sunday School Class. She was a member of the Senior Adult Choir and the Body Recall Exercise Group. Monthly, she enjoyed gathering with friends for the Young at Heart Luncheon and bringing her buttermilk coconut pie.
Survivors include her daughter Carol Sessums Lowrey of Oxford; her granddaughters Callie Lowrey Ferguson (Michael), Emily Lowrey, both of Little Rock, AR, and Sara Lowrey Scott (Andrew) of Clinton, MS; great grandchildren Eleanor, Thomas, and William; and niece Joyce Everett (Billy) of Forest.
Preceding her in death were her husband, I.W. Sessums; her son-in-law, Rives B. (Buddy) Lowrey; her parents; and her sister, Geraldine Mercer.
Family and friends are invited to a visitation at 10 a.m. on Friday, October 9, 2026, at Ott and Lee Funeral Home in Forest. Funeral Services will follow in the chapel at 11 a.m. Burial will be at Ephesus Baptist Church Cemetery following the service. Her pastor, Reid Stevens, will officiate. Music will be provided by Joyce Everett, Linda May, and Rick Sellers.
Pallbearers will be Michael Ferguson, Andrew M. Scott, Billy Everett, Mike Evans, Dustin Shannon, and Chris Fisher. Honorary Pallbearer will be Billy Price.
The family wishes to thank the nurses, aides, and others that cared for her at Lackey Convalescent Home. Appreciation is expressed also to ACG Hospice for their care during her last months.
