Obituary

Dallas Ray Fitzhugh, a beloved husband, father, grandfather, and decorated veteran, passed away on March 31, 2026 in Jackson, Mississippi. Born on December 25, 1956, in Attala County, Mississippi, Dallas lived a life marked by dedication to his family, his country, and his many passions.

Dallas proudly served his nation with distinction during the Vietnam War, where he was a senior communication radio chief manager. His contributions as a radio operator were critical in significant operations, including the evacuation of Vietnam and recapture of the U.S.S. Mayguez. For his bravery and skill, he was honored with numerous awards and decorations, cementing his legacy as a decorated veteran.

Beyond his military service, Dallas was a man of many interests and talents. He loved motorcycles and goat farming, finding joy and purpose in the outdoors and camping adventures. Known for his handyman skills, he enjoyed fixing things, always ready to tackle a challenge. Those who knew Dallas cherished his sense of humor and his playful spirit; he was a prankster at heart, whose laughter and jokes brightened many days. Though fearless in many aspects of life, he harbored a profound love and protective instinct for his family, which was his greatest source of strength and the only thing he feared losing.

Dallas’s devotion to his family was evident and unwavering. He is survived by his wife, Patricia "Crickett" Fitzhugh; his daughter, Savanna Fitzhugh; his step-daughter, Bridgett Bender; his beloved grandchildren, Deidra Chisolm and Crystal Denton; and his adopted son, C.J. Denton. He also leaves behind his loving brother, Wesley Fitzhugh, and sister, Sylvia "Ann" Herren, as well as his mother, Margie Marie Quarles. Family members who carry forward his legacy include his nephew, Nathan Fitzhugh, his niece, April Cole, and several great-grandchildren who were precious to him. Also among those who held him dear was his beloved friend, C.J. Letchworth.

Dallas was preceded in death by his father, Dallas Fitzhugh; brother, Donald Leroy Fitzhugh; sister, Betty Fitzhugh; stepfather, Glen Quarles; and stepson, Jason Thweatt.

Visitation will be held on April 4, 2026, from 12:00 PM to 1:45 PM at Ott & Lee Funeral Homes in Morton, Mississippi, located at 3555 US-80. The funeral service will follow on the same day, beginning at 2:00 PM at the same location.
