Brodus Lavell Reeves, beloved father, grandfather, great-grandfather, and friend, passed away peacefully on July 13, 2026, in Jackson, Mississippi, at the age of 84. Born on October 20, 1941, in Mississippi, Brodus’s life was a testament to faith, family, and the values of hard work and compassion.
Brodus was a proud son of Henry John Reeves and Francis Selena Reeves. From an early age, he displayed the qualities that would define his legacy: a deep love for his family, unwavering faith, and a humble strength that uplifted all who knew him. Brodus was a God-fearing man, known for his devotion and for finding inspiration and comfort in reading his Bible.
His life in Mississippi was filled with the simple joys found in nature. Brodus took great pleasure in hunting and fishing, often spending quiet mornings on the water or in the woods, relishing the peaceful beauty that surrounded him. He tended his garden with care and patience, nurturing both the land and his spirit, and sharing the bounty with those he loved.
Brodus’s profound love for his family was the heart of his life. He is survived by his devoted daughters: Penneye Risher, Sharon Reeves, and Debbie Fryery. His legacy continues through his grandchildren, Candie Risher, Matthew Risher (Courtney), Brandy Hill McBride (Joe), and Ben Hill, and through his great-grandchildren, Anastasia Palmer, Faith Long, Levi Risher and Briggs Risher. Each carries forward the values and affection that he instilled in them, cherishing his memory and the wisdom he imparted.
He is preceded in death by his beloved wife, Shirley Reeves, whose partnership was a source of strength and joy throughout his life. Brodus also mourned the loss of his father, Henry John Reeves; his mother, Francis Selena Reeves; his sisters, Rhodella Thompson and Mary Craft; and his brothers, Clyde Reeves and Johnny Reeves. Their memories remain intertwined in the story of his life, each reunion and remembrance a testament to enduring family bonds.
Friends and family are invited to honor Brodus’s life and legacy at a visitation on July 16, 2026, from 12:00 p.m. to 1:00 p.m. at Oak Grove Church of God in Morton, Mississippi.
