Betty Jean Gazverde, 83, passed away peacefully on Thursday, October 22, 2026, in Raymond, Mississippi.
Betty was born on November 29, 1942, in Marshall, Missouri, to John Koch and Mary Perkins Koch. One of eight children, she grew up in Marshall and attended Mercy High School. Throughout her life, Betty called many places home, including Kansas City, Missouri; New York; Blue Springs, Missouri; Olathe, Kansas; Flower Mound, Texas; and Brandon and Raymond, Mississippi, where she spent the last 25 years of her life.
Betty married the love of her life, Louis William Gazverde, Jr., and together they raised two daughters. Their love was one that lasted a lifetime, and her family finds great comfort in knowing they are reunited once again.
Betty was a devoted mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother whose greatest joy was her family. Affectionately known as “Granny,” she was everyone’s biggest cheerleader, constant companion, and always ready for the next adventure. Whether it was a baseball game, football game, softball game, theater performance, school pickup, or shopping trip, Granny was there. She never wanted to miss a moment of her grandchildren’s lives, and she made each of them feel incredibly loved.
Betty was funny, fiercely independent, strong-willed, loyal, and full of life. She had a wonderful sense of humor, loved a good April Fools’ joke, and was always up for just about anything. She enjoyed gardening, working in her yard, taking walks, and spending time outdoors. She had a special way of turning ordinary days into treasured memories. She also loved her mochas and sweet treats, especially donut holes. It seems only fitting that she enjoyed two of her favorites on the morning of her passing.
Betty was a devout Catholic and a member of St. Paul Catholic Church. Her family takes comfort in knowing that her long battle with Alzheimer’s disease and lung cancer is over, that she is no longer suffering, and that she is reunited in Heaven with her beloved husband.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Louis William Gazverde, Jr.; her parents, John and Mary Koch; and her sisters, Norma Gorrel, Darlene Cochran, and Kathy Scott.
She leaves behind her loving daughters, Karen Clark (Gene) and Amber Goreham (Travis); her grandchildren, Regan Walsh (Cody), Landon Clark, Abby Horton (Hayes), Brady Clark, and Paisley Goreham; her great-grandchild, Jonah; and her siblings, Larry Koch (Sharilyn), Glenn Koch (Dian), Judy Koch, and Patricia Smith (Leroy).
A visitation to celebrate Betty’s life will be held on Monday, November 2, 2026, from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. at Ott & Lee Funeral Home in Brandon, Mississippi.
Those wishing to honor Betty’s memory may send flowers or make a memorial donation to the Alzheimer's Association or the American Lung Association.
Although Alzheimer’s disease slowly took away so much, it could never erase the love Betty gave or the memories she created. Her family will forever remember the vibrant, adventurous, funny, and loving woman she was.
She was the best Mom, the best Granny, and one of the greatest blessings her family could have ever received. She will be deeply missed and forever loved.
