Betty Jewel Roland Chambers, of Homewood, passed away peacefully on June 22,2026. She was born on July 30, 1939, to Leonard Milton and Theodora Stone Roland of Hillsboro, MS.

Betty married Delbert Chambers on May18, 1957, the day after she graduated from Forest High School. They left immediately following the wedding to begin their life together at Foster Air Force Bace in Victoria, Texas. After four years and the birth of their son, Ronald, they came back home to Hillsboro. While in Hillsboro, Betty worked at Sunbeam and Delbert worked at Sunflower, and they had their first daughter, Wanda.

They opened Delbert Chambers Grocery in Homewood in 1966, moving there a few short years later. They were staples in the community through the store and later building a thriving horse and cattle business. They moved into their family home in 1972, shortly after their second daughter, Lori, was born.

Through all her duties as storekeeper, farm bookkeeper, mother and wife, Betty remained faithful to her Lord and her church. Many called her “The Church Lady”. She took pride in cleaning the church, serving as the church bookkeeper and her occasional Minnie Pearl appearances.

Betty loved her grandchildren dearly. There was always plenty of food, even more laughter, and maybe a little gossip now and then at Maw Maw’s house.

We will greatly miss her but are thankful for all the things she taught us, her faithfulness to the Lord and all the laughs over the years.

Betty was preceded in death by her parents, siblings, husband (Delbert) and granddaughter (Jayme Nicole). She is survived by son, Ronald (Anita), and daughters Wanda (John) and Lori (Jason), all of Homewood, seven grandchildren and fourteen great grandchildren.

Visitation will be Held on June 24, 2026, at Homewood Baptist Church from 10am until noon, with service following immediately at the church. No Graveside service will be held.
