Mr. W.G. “Bill” Barnes was born September 23, 1926 and passed away peacefully at his home in the presence of his family on October 11, 2018 at the age of 92.


Funeral services will be conducted at 2:00 pm on Saturday, October 13, 2018 from the Ott & Lee Chapel with Bro. David McLaurin, Bro. Clayborn Huff, and Bro. Robert Fortenberry officiating. Interment will follow in the Lorena Baptist Cemetery under the direction of Ott & Lee Funeral Home in Forest.


Visitation will be Friday, October 12, 2018 from 6:00 pm until 8:00 pm at the funeral home and on Saturday from 12:00 pm – 1:45 pm prior to the funeral service.


He was a lifelong resident of this area and a Baptist by faith, holding membership with the Bethel Baptist Church in Smith County. Mr. Barnes was a Mason and a retired machine operator with the Filtrol Corporation in Jackson, cattleman, logger, and farmer. He will be remembered for his strong work ethic and his love for his family.


He is preceded in death by one son: Tony (Peggy) Barnes; his parents: Glover and Emma Pryor Barnes; and his siblings: Sue Alford, Mattie Whatley, Lod Barnes, Hugh Niles “Partner” Barnes, Pat Barnes, and Rebecca Jones.


Survivors include his wife of over 68 years: Mrs. Shirley Barnes; one daughter: Dianne (David) McLaurin of Forest; one son: Roger (Sandra) Barnes of Morton; two adopted daughters: Kim Holt and Fran Barnes; two brothers: Ray (Butchie) Barnes and Tommy (Mary Jane) Barnes; seven grandchildren; numerous great-grandchildren; and a host of nieces and nephews.


Serving as pallbearers will be Jimmy Ray Burns, Robert Hallman, David Moulder, Charles Ray Harrison, Richard Russum, Bubba Hawkins, Chet Barnes, and Kenneth Hawkins.


Honorary Pallbearers will be Jimmy Dan Parkman, Mitch Hallman, and Toby Hodge.


In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Gideons International, Inc.
