Linda Pittman, 73, passed away Wednesday, January 8, 2020 at her residence. Visitation is 9:30 am Thursday, January 16, 2020 at Ott and Lee Funeral Home in Brandon. Services are 11 am Thursday at the funeral home with burial in Woodlawn Cemetery in Columbia.
Linda was a native of Columbia and a longtime resident of Rankin County. She was a member of First Baptist Church in Brandon.
Linda worked her entire career with mothers & babies. Promoting healthy moms & babies; breast feeding, childbirth education, and started the first sibling class in our state. She founded and served as the first Executive Director of Mothers' Milk Bank of Mississippi, retiring in 2018. She worked behind the scenes for many years before our founding date of 2010. She often spent her own money to travel to the annual meetings of the Human Milk Banking Association of North America, always desiring to learn all she could "for the babies," and made many friends among that group. When our doors opened in 2014, she was our only paid employee, often working unpaid overtime "to get the job done." Under her leadership, we found and renovated space, built and equipped our pasteurization lab, trained volunteer pasteurization technicians, and began serving premature babies in Mississippi human donor milk by physician prescription. She opened new depots in Tupelo, Columbus, Oxford, Pass Christian, and Meridian. We continued to grow, and she hired our first three paid employees. We will strive to continue her legacy of serving babies throughout Mississippi.
Survivors include her cousins, Neta Pittman Parkman of Brandon, Dana Byrd of Castle Rock, Colorado, Sandra Arnold of Clinton, John Pittman of Clinton, Paulette Duncan of Clinton, Larry Barnett of Brandon and numerous other cousins.
