Mr. Gene Lanthrip, a lifelong resident of Scott County, was born in Forest, MS on March 30, 1937 to his parents William Elmer and Ruie Ezaline Creel Lanthrip. He passed away November 22, 2019 at MS Baptist Medical Center in Jackson, MS at the age of 82.
A simple man, he was a self-employed mechanic who enjoyed tinkering, and loved fishing. He will be remembered for the love that he had for his family, especially his grandchildren. He was a retiree of the MS Army National Guard and a member of Steele Baptist Church.
In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by one brother: Robert Burnham Lanthrip; one sister: Ruth Virginia Usry; and one infant brother.
Survivors include his wife of 59 years: Mrs. Faye Lanthrip of Walnut Grove; three children: Jamie (Kelly) Lanthrip and Charnell (Barry) Sharp, both of Forest and Erica (Greg) Sullivan of Walnut Grove; eight grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; one brother: Billy George (Kay) Lanthrip of Pelahatchie and one sister: Willie Mae Myers of Forest; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will begin 2:00 pm Monday, November 25, 2019 at Steele Baptist Church. Interment will follow in the Steele Baptist Cemetery under the direction of Ott & Lee Funeral Home.
Visitation will be from 5:00 pm – 8:00 pm Sunday, November 24, 2019 at the funeral home and Monday one hour prior to the services at the church.
