Dr. Joseph Callicutt

February 19, 1951 — October 28, 2017


Dr. Joseph Daniel Callicutt, Sr. “Dan”, age 66, formerly of New Albany, Mississippi, passed away on October 28, 2017 in Brandon, Mississippi.  Dr. Callicutt owned the New Albany Small Animal Clinic, where he practiced veterinary medicine for 38 years.  After retiring from practice, Dr. Callicutt moved to Brandon, Mississippi and worked for the US Department of Agriculture.  Dr. Callicutt was a graduate of Auburn School of Veterinary Medicine and completed his pre-veterinary work at Mississippi State University.
Born in Tutwiler, Mississippi to Mr. and Mrs. Thomas L. Callicutt Sr., he attended and graduated from West Tallahatchie High School.
Dr. Callicutt was married to Mrs. Ranita Goodwin Callicutt.  They were married 40 years.  Dr. Callicutt and his wife were members of New Albany Presbyterian Church.  Dr. Callicutt loved spending time with his family and had a passion for veterinary medicine and caring for animals.
Dr. Callicutt is survived by his wife Ranita; two children, Joseph Daniel Callicutt Jr. and his wife Julie Gentry Callicutt and James Thomas Callicutt and his wife Baylea Blough Callicutt; two grandchildren Allie and Emmaline Callicutt; brother Thomas L. Callicutt Jr., and his wife Brenda Ward Callicutt; and sister Cheryl Callicutt Swindoll and her husband Mike Swindoll; his mother Jean Guyton Callicutt; brother-in-law, Ronnie C. Goodwin and his wife Barbara Goodwin; and brother-in-law, Roger Goodwin.
Dr. Callicutt is preceded in death by his father Thomas L. Callicutt Sr.
A memorial service will be held at New Albany Presbyterian Church on Saturday, November 4th, at 2:00PM.  A visitation at the church will precede the memorial service beginning at 12:00.
In lieu of flowers the family asks that memorial donations be made to New Albany Presbyterian Church General Fund; Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation West Tennessee Chapter (http://www.jdrf.org/westtn/), or Local Animal Shelter.
